Best Time To Ski Mt Bachelor + Worst Time

Tucked away in Oregon’s Cascade Range, Mt Bachelor is a paradise for skiing and snowboarding. The resort is famous for its long ski season and knowing when to hit the slopes at Mt Bachelor can make all the difference in maximizing your enjoyment on the slopes.

My husband and I have hit over 20 resorts across the United States and spend practically every winter weekend hitting different ski slopes. We’ve personally skied Mt Bachelor before and can vouch for how incredible the conditions and terrain are.

After years of organizing ski trips and visiting numerous resorts, we’ve experienced some with minimal snow and others with magical conditions. Fortunately, we visited Mt Bachelor during one of its prime times, so we have firsthand knowledge of the best times to ski at this resort.

The Best Time To Ski Mt Bachelor

The best time to enjoy skiing at Mt Bachelor is January or April. January is excellent because of the frequent snowstorms, leading to the highest annual snowfall at Mt Bachelor and plenty of powder days. However, April is also fantastic due to its ideal spring skiing conditions, fewer crowds, and warm bluebird days.

December

Skiing at Mt Bachelor in December offers a cozy start to the season with fewer crowds, but be aware that not all runs may be open due to limited snowfall early in the month.

If you do decide to ski in December, I recommend avoiding the resort in between Christmas and New Years as many crowds flock in for the holidays.

January

January is fantastic for skiing at Mt Bachelor as it often experiences numerous snowstorms, leading to optimal snow conditions, a vibrant winter atmosphere, and plenty of powder days.

I suggest steering clear of MLK weekend due to the high number of people who have time off from work and school, leading to a significant influx of visitors at the ski resort during this period.

February

February is peak winter skiing at Mt Bachelor, with great snow conditions and all runs typically open, making it an ideal time for an exhilarating skiing experience.

The only time I would advise avoiding is Presidents’ Day weekend, as it tends to attract a large number of visitors to the resort.

March

In March, Mt Bachelor continues to provide enjoyable skiing conditions with slightly warmer weather, offering a mix of winter thrills and a gentle transition into spring.

Spring break brings more visitors to Mount Bachelor, but it’s still a wonderful time to visit overall.

Mount Bachelor, along with Mammoth Mountain, are two of the best ski resorts in the world for spring skiing so you can’t go wrong visiting during March or April.

April

April shines for spring skiing at Mt Bachelor, with fantastic snow conditions and fewer crowds, creating a relaxed and enjoyable skiing environment.

April is personally my favorite time to visit Mount Bachelor. It offers a perfect balance, with occasional snowstorms but mostly sunny bluebird days.

I suggest starting your skiing a bit later, around 10 AM, as the sun warms the slopes, creating optimal conditions without the icy surfaces that typically occur early in the morning during spring skiing.

May

Towards the end of the season in May, skiing at Mt Bachelor becomes less practical due to melting snow and rising temperatures, making it advisable to wrap up your skiing adventures earlier in the spring.

However, Mt Bachelor does occasionally experience snowstorms during May. So, if you’re passionate about skiing or snowboarding and don’t mind variable conditions, May can still be an option to extend your ski season and enjoy additional time on the slopes.

If you intend to ski in May, I suggest keeping an eye on the weather and choosing to visit the ski resort either during or immediately after a snowstorm for the most best conditions.

The Worst Time To Ski At Mt Bachelor

Early in the ski season, with limited runs open, it’s advisable to skip skiing at Mt Bachelor in November and December.

Similarly, May is not ideal as the season nears its end in late spring, with melting snow and rising temperatures making skiing impractical.

For the best skiing experience, it’s recommended to avoid these months at Mt Bachelor.
