10 Destinations For The Best Après Ski In The World

I don’t know about you, but I absolutely love après ski. There’s nothing quite like spending a full day on the slopes, from morning to night, then heading into the village or town to enjoy drinks, appetizers, a sense of community, and beautiful views.

That said, I’ve skied at many different resorts, and some have a fantastic après ski scene with countless restaurants and bars, while others fall short or lack the right vibe. That’s why I wanted to put together this curated list of the best après ski spots in the world, so you’ll know exactly where to head for a great time after skiing or snowboarding.

1. Val d’Isere, France

Val d’Isère in the French Alps undoubtedly tops the list. Known as one of the world’s busiest ski resorts, it boasts an unbeatable atmosphere. While the skiing here is exceptional, the après-ski scene might be even better.

You can head to L’Étincelle at the bottom of the slopes and sip wine to the tunes of a DJ, or head to Le Coin des Amis in the village to enjoy mulled wine, a lively crowd, and live music. And these are just a couple of the many spots to experience. For an unforgettable time in the Alps, Val d’Isère must be on your bucket list.

2. Aspen, Colorado, United States

Aspen is one of the top mountain towns in the U.S., and its vibrant atmosphere lives up to the hype. While I could go on about its four distinct ski resorts, upscale shopping, and luxurious 5-star hotels, the après-ski scene truly stands out.

There are endless spots at the base of the slopes and downtown, with a few favorites being Sam’s at Snowmass for a Negroni Spritz and Ajax Tavern at Aspen Mountain for truffle fries and craft beer. With so many lively après-ski options, Aspen’s charm is undeniable. Although it’s a pricier destination, it’s well worth a splurge for a winter trip to remember.

3. Verbier, Switzerland

At the summit, the popular Ice Cube Bar offers a fun atmosphere with a DJ and great energy. While the Al Capone Wine Bar serves tasty local wines with incredible views from its impressive terrace. These are just two of the fantastic places you can enjoy apres ski with many more restaurants and bars that offer cocktails, live music, happy hour specials, and more.

One of my favorites is The Handle Bar, part of The Four Seasons Resort. This restaurant and bar has great views of the ski slopes and serves some truly tasty cocktails and delicious bites to eat. And while it’s not connected to the resort, you can’t go wrong with heading into town after spending hours on the slopes and paying a visit to the infamous Million Dollar Cowboy Bar to soak in the cowboy atmosphere and enjoy a few drinks while sitting on saddles at the bar.

Lastly, there’s Vail, Colorado, a top destination for an incredible après-ski scene. After a long day skiing the Legendary Back Bowls, I’ve enjoyed many evenings soaking up the lively atmosphere in Vail Village, where you can easily stroll between several great venues.

One of my favorites is the Red Lion, known for its shots, drinks, live music, and tasty bar food. Another great option is Los Amigos, famous for its margaritas, chips and dip, and tacos, which add a unique twist to the après-ski experience.
