15 Best Ski Resorts In November

November is here, which means ski season is just around the corner! I don’t know about you, but I’d love to strap on my boots, lock into my skis, and hit the slopes right now. I’m excited for our ski trips to start, but I also don’t want time to fly by!

If you’re eager to hit the slopes early, here’s a guide to the best ski resorts to visit in November.

1. Wolf Creek, Colorado

Wolf Creek leads the pack, having opened on October 22nd, 2024. With snow accumulating steadily, it’s a prime spot for early-season skiing and will be open all through November!

2. Arapahoe Basin, Colorado

Arapahoe Basin, one of the best ski resorts in November.

Arapahoe Basin is known for its famously long ski season, often among the first to open and the last to close, and this year is no different. They’ve just announced an opening day of Saturday, November 2nd, so skiers and riders get excited!

It’s one of my favorite Colorado mountains because it’s popular with locals and doesn’t draw the big crowds like Vail Resorts does.

3. Keystone, Colorado

Next up is Keystone, Colorado! Though we anticipated an opening in mid-October, we had to wait a bit for snowfall to build up. Now, I’m thrilled to share that Keystone just announced it’ll open on November 2nd, and locals couldn’t be more excited.

Keystone is a favorite of mine because it offers all the amenities of a Vail Resort but typically sees fewer crowds than its sister resorts, Breckenridge and Vail. This gives you a more relaxed experience with the same great luxury.

4. Killington, Vermont

Are you surprised to see an East Coast resort on this list? I was, too, until I skied Killington and understood why it’s a top November destination. While they haven’t made an official announcement yet, Killington is known for opening between November’s first and second weeks.

This year might be slightly delayed, but it’s still one of the earliest to open on the East Coast, so keep an eye on their socials for updates. Thanks to its impressive snow quality, it’s one of my favorite East Coast spots. It’s known as The Beast of the East for a reason, so you’ve got to check it out for yourself!

5. Alta, Utah

Next up is Alta, a true paradise for skiers. Honestly, I wasn’t initially interested in checking it out since many of my friends are snowboarders, and I enjoy skiing with my snowboarding husband. However, after hearing so many great things, I decided to try it, and it quickly became one of my favorite ski resorts in Utah and possibly the entire United States.

The powder here is incredible, with an impressive annual snowfall of about 548 inches. If you’re after early-season powder runs, don’t hesitate to visit! They’re set to open on November 22nd, which is mid-to-late November, but you won’t regret checking this resort out as the snow continues to build up in the following weeks.

6. Whistler Blackcomb, Canada

I feel like Whistler Blackcomb is mentioned in almost every category. It’s known for its vast size, excellent snow, world-class amenities, and charming base; there’s just so much to love! This resort is an outstanding destination for both skiers and snowboarders, so it’s no surprise that it’s also one of the top places to ski in November.

Whistler Blackcomb will also open on November 22nd. While that might seem late, it gives the resort plenty of time to accumulate snow, ensuring you can enjoy a variety of runs on opening day and in the following weeks.

7. Copper Mountain, Colorado

Next on the list is Copper Mountain! This resort has announced its opening date for November 8th, and I couldn’t be more thrilled. Located just a short drive from Denver, it’s easily accessible for those coming from the Mile High City and well-known for its vibrant snowboarding community.

If you’re in the mood for a large resort that often flies under the radar, I’ve had some unforgettable experiences here, and I highly recommend checking it out for yourself.

8. Sunshine Village, Canada

It’s no surprise that several Canadian ski resorts are on this list. Canada is famous for its early-season snow and excellent ski destinations, and Sunshine Village is no exception. This year, they’re set to open on November 8th, and they’re well-regarded for their early-season conditions.

If you’re looking for a getaway to one of the most beautiful spots in Canada, don’t hesitate to visit. My husband and I went to Sunshine Village around New Year’s and were amazed by Banff’s fantastic skiing, stunning scenery, and welcoming atmosphere.

9. Jay Peak Resort, Vermont

I only discovered Jay Peak Resort this year, and let me tell you, it’s a fantastic place! Not only is it incredibly family-friendly, but it also offers various indoor and outdoor activities. You could easily spend a full week here without getting bored or tired of all the options available.

Additionally, Jay Peak Resort is known for its early-season conditions, thanks to its northern location near Canada, which brings in early-season snow. They’re scheduled to open later in the month, on November 29th, but if you’re looking for a skiing destination towards the end of the month and on the East Coast, I highly recommend checking out this resort!

10. Sun Valley, Idaho

Next on the list is the renowned Sun Valley Resort in Idaho, scheduled to open on November 28th, Thanksgiving Day! What I love about this resort is its local vibe, combined with upscale amenities. Sun Valley is a great option if you’re looking for a luxurious getaway and a fun place to spend Thanksgiving.

Plus, because it requires a bit of effort to reach and isn’t as widely talked about as some other big-name resorts, you can expect a little bit fewer crowds, enhancing your Thanksgiving skiing experience.

11. Big Sky, Montana

Big Sky is another fantastic ski resort to consider in November. It will open on November 27th, just before Thanksgiving, making it ideal for those wanting to spend the long holiday weekend at a ski resort.

As one of Montana’s largest ski resorts, Big Sky boasts a charming town, excellent early snowfall, and much more. If you’ve wanted to visit Big Sky during the winter season and combine it with a holiday getaway, this could be the perfect opportunity!

12. Vail, Colorado

We can’t talk about ski resorts to visit in November without mentioning Vail. The skiing here is exceptional, but the charming Vail Village really sets this resort apart. The ski resort will open for the season on November 15th, about two weeks before Thanksgiving. This allows skiers plenty of time to hit the slopes in November, making it an excellent option for those wanting to enjoy the holiday here.

Thanks to its picturesque European architecture and dreamy snow-covered atmosphere, it’s one of the most magical places to celebrate the holidays. It’s one of my favorite early-season destinations, and I highly recommend checking it out if you’re looking for excellent conditions!

13. Mammoth Mountain, California

Mammoth Mountain is another resort starting its season on November 15th! I really love this mountain because it’s known for its lengthy ski season. It offers excellent early-season conditions as well as great late-season skiing, making it a fantastic destination at almost any time during the season.

It’s one of the best resorts in California, and I appreciate that it doesn’t attract the same crowds as the Lake Tahoe resorts. If you’re looking for a great resort with fabulous amenities that often flies under the radar, you definitely need to check this one out!

14. Lake Louise, Canada

Next on the list is Lake Louise, another ski resort in the Banff area. They’re scheduled to open on November 8th and are renowned for their early-season snow. With excellent skiing conditions, top-notch amenities, breathtaking views, and a welcoming atmosphere, what’s not to love about this resort?

If you’ve been wanting to visit Banff in the winter, November is a fantastic time to go. You’ll encounter fewer crowds and have the opportunity to enjoy some early-season powder.

15. Arizona Snowbowl, Arizona

While this resort technically opens in mid-to-late November, it’s a must-mention thanks to the steady snowstorms it’s been getting for weeks! For those looking to experience one of Arizona’s most epic ski destinations, they’re set to open on November 22nd.
