My husband and I lived in Colorado for nearly two years and made countless trips to Breckenridge. We still visit frequently to enjoy the slopes.

With that experience, I can guide you on the best time to ski Breckenridge, including when the resort gets the most snow, when it’s busiest and more. Keep reading to find out the ideal time to ski Breckenridge.

What Is The Best Time To Ski In Breckenridge?

The best time to ski in Breckenridge is from mid-January to late March. During this period, most, if not all, runs are open, the base layer is deep, and powder days are plentiful.

If you are looking for a month-by-month breakdown of the best and worst times to visit Breckenridge for skiing, continue reading down below.

December

Although Breckenridge usually opens in November, I recommend waiting until December for more runs to be open and the base layer to deepen. December is an excellent time for Coloradans or those within driving distance to visit.

However, if you’re planning a major ski trip that involves flying, I suggest holding off until the middle of the season, when conditions are at their best. Early-season skiing in December can still be a great experience for those within driving distance, but be prepared for larger crowds during the holidays.

January

I consider January to be the kickoff to prime ski season in Colorado. By this time, several snowstorms have hit, the base layer has thickened, and more runs are open, making it an excellent month to ski at Breckenridge.

For those traveling from out of state and flying in for a major ski trip, I recommend waiting until mid-January to allow the mountains even more time to accumulate powder. However, be aware that crowds can be quite heavy around New Year’s and MLK weekend.

February

February is one of my favorite months to ski at many resorts, and Colorado is no exception. You can’t go wrong skiing at Breckenridge on any day in February.

Just keep in mind that the resort tends to get crowded over Presidents’ Day weekend. But if you are okay with longer lift lines, it’s a fantastic way to spend a holiday on the mountain without worrying about work or school!

March

March is another fantastic month to ski at Breckenridge. I particularly enjoy skiing there in March because it’s one of the snowiest months for the resort.

Plus, it’s a unique experience; traveling from Denver, you might ski powder in the mountains and then return to the Mile High City for a warm spring day in town. It’s the best of both worlds! Just know this doesn’t always happen, but it is special when it does.

The Worst Time To Ski At Breckenridge

Breckenridge is one of my favorite resorts in Colorado, not only for its incredible ski slopes but also for its charming town; there’s really nothing like it. While there’s never a terrible time to ski at Breckenridge during the season, November and April would be my least recommended months.

The season starts in November, and only a few runs are open. There are fewer powder days in April, the resort begins winding down for the season, and the warmer weather leads to some runs closing due to exposure. While you might get lucky in either month, November and April generally offer the least favorable conditions for skiing at Breckenridge.
