Top 10 Busiest Ski Resorts In Colorado

Colorado is my favorite place to ski, and many people across the country agree. The state has amazing resorts, but with its popularity come big crowds and long lift lines. Keep reading as I share some of the busiest ski resorts in Colorado.

1. Vail Ski Resort

Vail easily takes the number one spot. Skiers from all over the world come to experience its famous terrain, massive size, charming village, upscale amenities, and beautiful views. While I love skiing at Vail, it also means dealing with big crowds, a packed village, and high costs.

2. Breckenridge Ski Resort

Next on the list is Breckenridge Ski Resort, Vail’s sister resort and close neighbor. Breckenridge is known for its advanced and expert skiing, especially around the Peak 8 and Peak 10 areas. It’s also home to the highest ski lift in North America, which is an amazing experience, offering access to fantastic terrain. While I enjoy skiing at Breckenridge, it’s far from a hidden gem, as you’ll find plenty of crowds and tourists during your visit.

3. Keystone Resort

Keystone is another resort located near Vail and Breckenridge. While it may be slightly less known than its neighbors, it still attracts a busy crowd. This resort tends to be a favorite among locals in Colorado, so while you might encounter fewer out-of-towners, you can still expect to see plenty of fellow Coloradans enjoying the slopes.

4. Aspen Snowmass Ski Resort

Next up is Aspen Snowmass, a resort that regularly attracts celebrities and influencers, as seen on social media during the winter. It’s a fantastic destination but certainly not a hidden gem, drawing large crowds throughout the season. Thanks to its stunning views, reputation, and celebrity appeal, Aspen Snowmass is one of the top ski resorts in the region and one of Colorado’s busiest.

5. Beaver Creek Resort

Beaver Creek Resort is another of Colorado’s busiest ski spots. Though it’s slightly less famous than Vail and Breckenridge, it still attracts plenty of visitors due to its luxurious amenities. Skiers and snowboarders here can enjoy upscale accommodations, fantastic dining, and fun perks like freshly baked chocolate chip cookies served daily at 3:00 PM. It’s the perfect destination for those seeking a high-end Colorado resort that goes the extra mile. Just be prepared for longer lift lines and crowds at restaurants and shops.

Next on the list is Aspen Mountain. For those who may not know, Aspen boasts four main ski resorts and Aspen Mountain is another one of the most popular. This resort is especially recognized for its challenging terrain and steep runs, making it an ideal choice for expert skiers eager to hit the slopes. Just be aware that it’s one of the busiest resorts in Colorado, so you can expect crowds, especially during the holidays.

It is mainly known for its family-friendly atmosphere and beginner-friendly terrain, making it a fantastic spot for families and those just starting their skiing journey. However, due to its popularity, you can also expect to encounter many other beginners on the slopes.

Getting to Telluride Ski Resort takes a bit longer than reaching the other resorts on this list. You’ll need to fly into the nearby regional airport or drive from larger cities like Denver, about 6 hours away, or Colorado Springs, roughly 7 hours away. Although the travel may seem complicated, skiers worldwide flock here for the stunning slopes, breathtaking views, upscale accommodations, and charming western-style downtown. As a popular destination for celebrities, you can expect crowds throughout the winter season.

9. Winter Park Resort

Next up on the list is Winter Park Resort, one of my favorites in Colorado. While it’s popular and attracts crowds, they aren’t as overwhelming as those at Vail or Breckenridge. I really appreciate the local vibe and the two distinct areas, Mary Jane and Winter Park. Although I’ve encountered some of the busiest slopes and lift lines here, it can be a fantastic experience if you can avoid holidays and come prepared.

10. Crested Butte

Last but definitely not least is Crested Butte. While it may be one of the lesser-known resorts on this list, it remains one of Colorado’s busiest ski destinations. Visitors come to have fun on its legendary slopes and to appreciate the authentic local atmosphere. The resort takes pride in supporting local businesses, which is evident in the charming restaurants and shops throughout the area. Although it attracts local crowds, Crested Butte is an excellent choice for those who don’t mind some hustle and bustle on the slopes or lift lines and seek a genuine skiing experience at a popular resort in Colorado.
