15 Snowiest Ski Resorts In The United States

I’ve skied at over twenty resorts across the United States, experiencing everything from incredible powder days to challenging conditions with minimal snow coverage. This has shown me just how amazing it is to ski at the snowiest resorts in the U.S., where you’re more likely to encounter those magical conditions.

If you’re like me and want your ski season packed with powder days and epic runs, read on as I highlight the snowiest ski resorts in the country.

Leading the pack is Mount Baker in Washington. This ski resort receives an average of 688 inches of snowfall each year. Thanks to its unbelievable snow, it’s one of the best destinations to ski in the Pacific Northwest

Next up on the list is the incredible Alyeska Resort. This ski area receives an average of 650 inches of snowfall each year. Its prime location is super close to Anchorage, which makes it easy to fly into and hit this resort. If you’re a passionate skier like myself and have been wanting to explore Alaska, I couldn’t think of a better destination to experience epic runs and legendary snowfall.

3. Alta, Utah

Alta is the next ski area on this list. It receives an annual average of 548 inches of snow. This is a skiers-only mountain, so snowboarders will have to stick to its sister resort, Snowbird, but if you are a skier looking for powder, a sense of community, and awesome runs, I’ve personally skied here before and had such a fun time enjoying their awesome powder.

4. Snowbird, Utah

Right next door to Alta is Snowbird, one of my favorite resorts in the state. It receives about 500 inches of snowfall each year and allows both skiers and snowboarders. Its location close to Salt Lake City, its policy of allowing all winter sports enthusiasts, its expert territory, and its iconic powder days easily make it one of the best ski resorts in Utah.

5. Solitude, Utah

Next up on the list is yet another Utah ski resort, Solitude. This resort also receives an average annual snowfall of 500 inches and is known for its family-friendly environment. If you’re traveling with your family and looking to enjoy plenty of powder days, this is my top recommendation in Utah.

6. Brighton, Utah

Brighton is another resort located in Utah. This resort also receives an annual average of 500 inches of snowfall. While the ski resort offers great skiing during the day, it’s even better for those wanting to ski once the sun goes down, as it has some of the best night skiing in the country.

7. Sugar Bowl, California

Sugar Bowl is next up on the list. This resort sits pretty close to Lake Tahoe, so you can enjoy the nightlife and scenery surrounding it. Additionally, I love that it’s not very talked about, so you can typically experience fewer crowds here than at other resorts in the area, like Heavenly or Palisades Tahoe. Last but certainly not least, they receive an annual average of 500 inches of snowfall, so you can expect plenty of memorable powder days here!

8. Grand Targhee, Wyoming

Aside from the fantastic skiing and excellent powder, I love the views that you get from this resort of the Tetons! It’s an incredible ski area for those looking to explore a Wyoming resort that’s a little bit of a hidden gem, has beautiful views, and receives phenomenal snow.

Pomerelle Mountain is a hidden gem on this list. Not many people have heard of this ski area in southern Idaho, but it deserves some recognition largely because of the impressive 500 inches of snowfall it averages each year. This ski area is family-owned and operated, has a cute base area, and receives some epic powder days.

I could talk all day about how much I love Jackson Hole’s town and ski resort. The ski resort has incredible terrain, including the famous expert-run Courbet’s Coulier, and receives great powder, averaging 458 inches each year.

To enhance the ski experience, the base area and the downtown area are great places to retreat to for apres-ski and soaking in the vibe and scenery. It’s one of my favorite places in the world, and if you’ve never experienced it for yourself, you should definitely add it to your bucket list.

12. Wolf Creek, Colorado
