As a passionate skier, I’m always looking for excellent snow. Having experienced both the best and worst conditions across the globe, I know firsthand how much incredible snow can enhance your time on the slopes. Read on as I highlight the snowiest ski resorts in the world worth visiting.
1. Mount Baker, Washington, United States
Average Annual Snowfall: 688 inches
The Mount Baker Ski Area is number one on this list. This ski resort receives a whopping average of 688 inches of snowfall yearly. So you can bet that the area provides some incredible opportunities to enjoy skiing and snowboarding. The resort is about 3 hours from Seattle and an amazing place to ski in the Pacific Northwest.
2. Alyeska, Alaska, United States
Average Annual Snowfall: 650 inches
Next up on this list is Alyeska Resort. I had the privilege of visiting here recently, and I was blown away by its close location to Anchorage and the charming town surrounding the resort. But what impressed me the most is that they receive an annual average of 650 inches, making it a fantastic option for those chasing plenty of powder days during the winter.
3. Niseko, Japan
Average Annual Snowfall: 551 inches
Japan has risen in popularity in the last few years, and it seems like every person I come across on Instagram or TikTok is visiting. This is largely thanks to its friendly people, delicious food, cleanliness, beautiful architecture, and incredible ski resorts. One of the most iconic resorts in the country is Niseko, which receives an astounding average of 551 inches of snow each year.

This one surprised me! Honestly, I don’t know too much about India, but I do know a lot about ski resorts. Did you know that one of the top five snowiest ski resorts in the world is in the continent of Asia? Gulmarg, in the northern part of India, receives 551 inches of snowfall, making it the perfect place to ski in India. Plus, how can you beat indulging in dishes like chicken tikka masala and curry after a long day on the slopes?
5. Alta, Utah, United States
Average Annual Snowfall: 548 inches
I had the pleasure of skiing at Alta for the first time last year, and it blew my mind. To be honest, it’s one of only a handful of ski resorts in the United States that doesn’t allow snowboarders, and my husband prefers to snowboard, so I wasn’t sure how I would feel about it. But let me tell you, the resort is very local, the ski slopes are out of this world, and I went on a powder day when I was able to experience some of its average annual snowfall of 548 inches, and I’ll never forget what a fun day it was.
6. Snowbird, Utah, United States
Average Annual Snowfall: 500 inches
Snowbird is one of my favorite resorts in Utah. I love its convenient location near Salt Lake City, its expert territory, and the incredible 500 inches of snowfall it averages each year! It’s one of the best places to ski for powder days, and its convenient location near such a large airport makes it quick and easy to get to.
7. Solitude, Utah, United States
Average Annual Snowfall: 500 inches
Next up on this list is Solitude in Utah. This resort also receives an annual average of 500 inches of snowfall. It’s known for its family-friendly atmosphere and isn’t far from Salt Lake City, so it’s a great and convenient option for families looking for powder.

Are you surprised to see yet another Utah resort on this list? Utah is one of North America’s snowiest states, and its ski resorts are famous for getting pounded by snow. While its 500 inches of snowfall each year definitely makes it stand out, one of my favorite features about the resort is its fabulous night skiing for those looking to hit the slopes after the sun has gone down.
9. Sugar Bowl, California, United States

To me, Sugar Bowl is one of the most underrated ski resorts in the United States. You don’t hear many people talk about it, but it deserves some time in the spotlight for several reasons. First, it receives an annual average of 500 inches of snowfall yearly. The following reason is that not many talk about it; it has a hidden gem-like status, so you don’t experience all the crowds. Lastly, I love Sugar Bowl’s location close to Lake Tahoe so that you can experience the fun nightlife, views, and activities in the area.
10. Grand Targhee, Wyoming, United States
Average Annual Snowfall: 500 inches
Last but certainly not least, Grand Targhee comes in at the tenth spot on this list. It is located in Alta, Wyoming, about one hour and thirty minutes northwest of Jackson Hole. The resort gets an impressive 500 inches of snowfall each year and has some of the best views of one of my favorite mountain ranges, the Tetons!
